DYsXMe ± Dyslexic Medias
H C-(M)

Dyslexic Media/s is hybrid terminology proposed to recognize, analyze, produce [and re + produce] genetically modified media that does not operate properly in the logical realm of art & science practices, taking advantage of unusual problems related with decoding lexicons and “r-e-a-ding “anomalies” embedded in contemporary diagnosis of dyslexia (audiovisual)_-.

To set the space of these proto-theoric appliances, is necessary to understand the use of dyslexia as a fertile ground for immoderate reconfigurations. If is true that is scientifically understood that Dyslexia miscalculates transmission of meaning and intention under cognitive pressures, is fundamental to pursue Dyslexia as a sophisticated version of techne:

“When people think of genetics, the first thing they might think is that it’s something that’s fixed, and we know that that’s simply not the case,” Luciano tells the publication. “Genes operate within environments, so the environment is really important to consider.”
-Michelle Luciano Scientists Identify Genes Linked to Dyslexia

The project then is to consider this particular take of techne as disruptor, Dyslexia as a techne + commentator + machine concerning technologies of media. If the lab is the ultimate incubator of cultural remediation, misreading the apparatuses of Lab Cognition inside an artistic context could lead to controlled chaos necessary to produce mutant legacies.

DYsXMe pro-po-ses then, that genetic MEDIA [+biomedia +_-trans,media] is prone to be “dyslexed” as new engineered cultural material, a remediation process:

“Futhermore, media technologies constitute networks or hybrids
that can be expressed in physical, social, aesthetic, and economic terms.
Introducing a new media technology does nor mean simply inventing
new hardware and software, but rather fashioning (or refashioning) such
a network.”
Grusin/Bolter--Remediation: Understanding New Media (1999)

Is opportune then to declare that under this techne that Media is rich when misread+_ed, pro-vo-cative when inco—mpl-ete, con⸻fusing and interesting when mismatched. Is an aim to subvert the already programmed Petri Dish Distribution Network, to rearrange the pano-ptic practices in the ArtLab, to use dyslexic discourses and raid the exhibition cube model.

Formed as a direct reference to A Neo⸺ —ist Research Project’s text DYSLEXIA, DYsXMe relies in the ro-l-e of misreading genetic media material as a new hidden l-anguage inside technosciences, o-ne that buil-ds pro-fuse la—yers o-f novel meanings and new territo-ries: the main go-al- in this case is to- bring decadent wetware practices to—wards exciting revamped Goliath fle-sh critique and deviant art to- fo-rm dyslex—paradises.

Reproduction of Remediation

\
DYsXMe refurbishes the idea of Dyslexia as a fo-rmal- disadvantage, rather than the co-nstant repair or rational surveillance, it sho-ul-d be presented as a glitch inside language systems of thought,-one that pushes l-ayers o-f po-tential———— fro-m imaginative geo-l-o-catio-ns to- hal-f human specul-atio-ns and hack experiences. Le-ts sto-p referring Dysle-xia as the collapse of human reason / representation and let’s expl-o-re it not just as a scientific transplant, but as a cultural enema.
What if we could take strong, institutionalized references of bioart and genetic manipulation to speculate about their future detours under dyslexic misreadings, apart from the fascinating mutations involved?
